Sterling Silver/Etched Glass 8 Coasters with S. S. Caddy by M. Fred Hirsch Co Inc

  

The coasters' intricate silver rims with the detailed starburst etching in their glass base make the set of 8 in the caddy a touch of elegance for dining settings. These 8 coasters and caddy belonged to my family in the early 1900's. I believe they may have been a gift to a Philadelphia family member since the initials E. Are engraved on the top of the coaster caddy (See pics #6, #7, and #8). They were manufactured by M.

Fred Hirsch Co Inc, Jersey City, NJ which was a company active in producing sterling silver items from 1920 - 1945. I know this because underneath (on the back of) the "EMT", it has three symbols = a crown, an "H", and a shield which.

It has the word "STERLING" below the symbols (See pics #9 & #10). "STERLING" confirms that the material is 92.5% pure silver. The caddy with the 8 coasters weighs 7.0 ounces without the packaging materials. They measure 2 1/2" tall and 3 3/8" wide.
