Alvin Sterling 1000 Fine Overlay Cut Glass Decanter. Up for sale is the impressive antique cut glass decanter with sterling silver overlay in floral motifs, dated 1904.
The decanter is with a radiation cut at the bottom accompanied by the inscribed marks 49and 5, and has a calligraphy monogram MY in front. The lower back underneath the handle shows Patented 144, 1000, Fine and the Alvin hallmark.
The sterling overlay stopper has a ball like handle and an inscribed mark 49. Alvin was started by Wm. Jamoneau in 1886 as Alvin Mfg Co in Irvington, New Jersey. The firm changed to Alvin-Beiderhase Co c. Measures: Dimensions, 6 ¼ high (with stopper, or 5 high, without stopper) x 3 ½. X 2 ¼ (across deepest parts) x 1 ½ base diameter; Weight, 11.9 oz (337 grams). Condition: Good and clean, with a tiny chip to the end of the stopper and the decanter has some chips and minor glass missing inside the mouth without influencing the function and the overall beauty.
