1956 SilverCity Glass Plate with Sterling Silver Flanders Flowers Overlay+Server

  

This set of the Silver City sterling silver "Flanders" designed flowers overlayed on the 6 1/4" wide glass plate with the 6 1/4" WEB sterling silver hollowware handle/stainless steel blade server would make an incredible wedding/anniversary gift for someone special! OR a gift for a Collector of sterling silver overlayed on glass. The history behind the set is that it was gifted to my Mom Mrs.

Frank Hammer III on 11/28/1956 as a wedding gift from John Wanamaker, Philadelphia, PA, a quality & prestigious department store at that time. I included the card (See pic #10) to show that my family has been the single Owner of these pieces. My parents resided in the Philadelphia area. The Silver City Glass Company was founded in Meriden, CT and they specialized in creating decorative glassware with sterling silver overlay.

The technique involved applying intricate patterns of pure silver onto glass pieces. Their designs often featured floral motifs and were popular for serving ware & decorative items. I took pictures of the top and underneath of the plate on white & black backgrounds to see its best representation. The WEB Sterling Silver Company was. Based in Philadelphia, PA and they manufactured high-quality sterling silver hollowware / giftware (See pic #9).

The server can be used for a petite party, cheese, cake, pie, etc piece (See pics # 7 & #8). Together the plate, server, and wedding note card with envelope weigh 8.7 ounces without the packaging materials.
