Assay Office mark: The Crown symbol indicates the item was assayed (tested and marked) in the Sheffield Assay Office. Standard mark: The Lion Passant symbol is the British standard mark for sterling silver, guaranteeing a purity of 92.5% pure silver. Date letter: The lowercase'a' in a square punch with cut corners corresponds to a specific year in the date cycle used by the Sheffield Assay Office. Silver shows gentle age-appropriate patina.
