This is a nice antique cut glass jar with a sterling silver lid (see photos). The item looks to be an inkwell to me (see photos). The item has a very ornate sterling silver removable non hinged lid and a beautiful cut glass base (see photos). The item is not marked by a maker on the base. The lid is marked STERLING (see photos).

The item is antique (see photos). The item is from a nice estate (see photos). The item looks to me to be from the US and to be American in origin (see photos and decide the age, the origin and the maker).

The item in total measures about 3 and 3/8ths inches high and it is about 2 and 3/8th inches from the front edge to the back side and from side to side at the base. There is some glare white spots of the lights that are visible as reflections in the photographs. The item is in very good condition with some minimal wear (see photos and / or written description for the condition of this item).
