Art Nouveau French Sterling Silver and etched ice glass Opera Flask. A stunning example of French design and a testament to the artistry and affluence associated with the French Belle Epoque era, this beautiful Silver and Ice Glass Art Nouveau Opera or Carriage Liquor flask is sure to delight. Mounted with silver fittings, the vermeil lined top protects the original stopper which fits snuggly atop of the tapered body of acid-etched cameo "ice" glass. Decorated with a charming, enamelled motif of flowers in the style of Legras, the design gives way to the snuggly fitting removable tumbler which neatly overlays the clear glass base. The lid and tumbler are richly decorated with geometric patterns expertly chased into the planished silver to complete the piece.

This highly sought- after design is in excellent antique condition although the French purity marks are worn and difficult to identify and there is some ware evident in the vermeil of the tumbler. This fine example of a Carriage/Opera Flask seems very much in keeping with the work of French silversmiths of the period such as Eugène Lefebvre or Emile or Jean Puiforcat and the expert etching, enamel work and palette certainly exudes the quality of the period and strikingly typifies the quality of French craftmanship of the period. This is an exceptional example which merits the attention any collector or decorator with an interest in all things Nouveau and such fine examples becoming exceedingly more difficult to secure in this condition.
