The decanter has a clear glass body overlaid in raspberry red and white and features cameo cut vines and butterflies. These colors were typically used by Thomas Webb and cameo pieces in this coloration are easily identified as being made by Webb.
This FABULOUS piece was made during the period when the finest cameo glass and intaglio carving was being produced. The quality of this piece is the very best and the delicate and intricate intaglio carving will amaze you. The top has a fancy five letter engraved monogram on one side.
Sterling neck with thumb hold and chain are attached to the applied glass handle. The glass is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws.
The Sterling Silver top has a small no-harm dent on one of the large leaves (see photos) and although the top fits loosely onto the mouth of the decanter, we find no indication that this is not as it was originally made. Measures 9 1/4" high, 7/8" in diameter at top opening, an overall width of 5" and a 2 7/8" diameter base. Although unmarked as is most of the English cameo glass produced, we guarantee this vase to have been made by Thomas Webb of Stourbridge, England and be original as described. We have personally seen several cameo pieces with this color combination bearing the Webb cameo stamp.
