Super clear hallmarks for Sheffield, 1899 making this item over 125 years old. The item weighs just over 500g including its original cobalt blue glass liner, which is in perfect condition, with no chips or cracks. The pure Sterling Silver component weighs 197g on my scale.

It is about 10cm tall and 10cm diameter. To me, it looks bigger than that! This item was made by James Dixon & Sons Ltd of Cornish Place Sheffield, UK in 1899 according to the full hallmarks.

The maker's mark and lion passant mark is repeated on the handle, as is customary. There is a number "E6660" on the base, which may be a design mark of some kind. The item is very decorative and has no significant damage to report.

Please see the many photos for more information. There is a lot of quality silversmithing in this item - The original bowl form has a fully functional, solid hinged handle, and a basket warehouse style piercing pattern has been applied. The bowl then has four fancy feet applied. The item was awarded as a prize and has a small text engraved inscription: NEWCASTLE CARBINE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP -1900- SERG?

THOMPSON 1st NTRGA VOLS The inscription is all included in a diamond about 2cm by 2cm and does not detract from a more generic display or domestic purpose. I have some other things for sale that may be of interest to you.
