With a larger profile for this style of piece, yet an airy and delicate look, this early 1900's pendant personifies the style of the era. Curvy and feminine, the scalloped border is accented with bright and glittering paste stones that frame the central, oval cut, royal purple cabochon made to simulate amethyst. A dainty drop at the bottom gives this piece a subtle amount of movement as the piece nicely hangs from its original bale. This piece is fresh looking and must have been tucked away and well.

Taken care of, the signs of wear are noticeable only on close inspection. The silver setting has a bright patina with very little surface wear. The stones are all in place and original to the piece.

The clear paste stones are all bright and sparkly. There is a tiny bit of surface wear and scratching to the central paste stone that is noticeable on inspection. There are no other irregularities to the setting or signs of solder or repair and the piece has a firm shape.

Mark silver at the back. Material Test for sterling Silver, glass. Sparkle has been a key element of jewelry design and the way gemstones are cut for centuries - as well as an indication of quality. For example, the bezel-set brilliant cut was developed to enhance the light-reflecting qualities of gemstones, like diamonds in the light. In addition during the Georgian era, the rose cut diamond became popular as the cut sparkled beautifully in candlelight. Facets, special raised prong and open back settings, and movement all serve to promote play with light and make for stunning pieces. Movement in jewelry is an indicator of a higher end piece, as it demonstrates that the designer considered how the jewelry would look and feel when it was actually worn. For example, high-end pieces often adjust to different necklines or wrists for comfort and a seamless look. Other times, movement is strategically incorporated for gemstones to catch the light or to enhance the sparkle of a certain gemstone cut. _gsrx_vers_1233 GS 8.1.1 (1233).
