Presented is a fabulous set of 6 antique English sterling silver and cut glass cups. The silver holders for these cups date to 1901, and were made by William Comyns. The sterling silver holders are beautifully decorated with classical genre scenes of cherubs or puttis surrounded by fruit, flowers, and Rococo style foliate scrollwork. Each cup has a scroll enclosed cartouche on the front (opposite the handle) which has never been monogrammed. The handles are nicely formed in a foliate C scroll design, with thumbpiece in the form of a ram's or mythical beast's head.

The glass inserts feature nicely cut and frosted floral decoration, which will look quite appealing with colored liquid inside. This set of cups is in great overall condition. The glass inserts have no chips or cracks, just the occasional minor surface scratch/abrasion, nothing of any significance. The silver has some minor losses here and there, the most noticeable of which are pointed out in the seventh photograph. No monograms, no monogram removals, and no solder repairs.

Each silver holder is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the city of Birmingham, the date letter b for 1901, and the maker's mark for William Comyns & Sons Ltd. Each cup measures about 2 3/4inches tall at the rim of the glass, or about 2 inches at the tallest point of the silver (the handle). The cups measure about 2 in diameter, or 2 3/4 inches from the handle to the opposite side. The total weight for the set is about 1.75 pounds. The weight for just the silver holders is 164 grams or 5.8 regular ounces.
