Presented is a remarkable, sterling silver overlaid urn made in honor of Rear Admiral John Grimes Walker of the US Navy in 1905. This commemorative piece was made for Walker's retirement as the chairman of the Isthmaian Canal Commission, which was in connection to the construction of the Panama Canal.
The huge piece is made of glass and is completely overlaid/covered with a thick sterling silver layer. The large lid to the piece is completely sterling silver and weighs a lot for its size. The urn is monogrammed on the front with the Admiral's initials and a nice message: May every good event attend thee now and blessings wait upon thy way. The back is inscribed: To Rear Admiral John G.
Walker United States Navy, In grateful appreciation of his steadfast kindness and courtesy to his fellow officers and employees while Chairman of the Isthmian Canal Commission and with their sincere esteem and best wishes upon his retirement. The lid is engraved with the date April 1905. A great historic piece from the construction of the Panama Canal. This piece is in fabulous condition for its age and the designs are crisp. There is a slight dent on the lid but there are no other dents, no breaks, no splits, no monogram removals and no repairs. The urn with the lid measures 18 inches tall. The solid sterling lid weighs 286.5 grams or 10.1 ounces, just by itself. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution.
